Jolly Jumpsuit For Infant
Materials: 6 balls (each ball weighing 25 gm) 4 ply yarn; 1 ball each 1st and 2nd Contrasts. 1 pair each Nos 10 and 12 knitting needles;1 stice holder; 20cm long lightning zipper.
Abbreviations: M=Main color; C1 and C2= 1st and 2nd Contrasts.
Left Side
Using No. 12 needles and and M cast on 82 sts. Work 8 rows st st. Knit 2 rows. Change to No.10 needles. Working throughout in stripes of 8 rows M, 2rows each C1, M and C2, work 12 rows st st. Dec at each end of next row and foll 8th rows until 70 sts. rem.
Work 8 rows. Inc at each end of next row and foll 6th rows twice. Cont straight until work measures 20 cm from knit ridge ending with a purl row. Inc at each end of next row and alt rows twice 82sts. Work 3 rows.
Shape Crotch: Dec at each end of next row and alt rows twice - 76 sts. Cont until work measures 20 cm from beg of crotch shaping ending with a purl row.
Divide for Armholes: K36, cast off 4 sts, K36. Dec at armhole edge in every row 6 times - 30 sts. Work 35 rows.
Shape Shoulders: Cast off 5 sts at beg of next row and foll alt row, then 5 sts at beg of foll alt row. Leave rem sts on a stitch holder. Join yarn to rem 36 sts and dec at armhole edge in every row 6 times - 30 sts. Work 19 rows.
Shape Neck: 1st Row: Cast off 10 sts, knit to end. Dec at neck edge in every row 5 times - 15 sts. Work 11 rows.
Shape Shoulder: Cast off 5 sts at beg of next row and foll alt row. Work 1 row. Cast off.
Right Side: Work to correspond with left side.
Sleeves: Using No. 12 needles and M, cast on 42 sts.
1st Row: K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.
2nd Row: P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows 5 times, dec sts in last row - 40 sts. Change to No. 10 needles. Keeping stripes correct (as before) inc at each end of 3rd row and foll 6th rows until there are 52 sts. Cont straight until side edge measures 15 cm from beg, ending with a purl row.
Shape Top: Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec at each end of next row and alt rows until 32 sts rem, then in every row until 14 sts rem. Cast off.
Neckband: Using back stitch join shoulder, leg and centre back seams. With right side facing using No. 12 needles and M, knit up 81 sts.
1st Row: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
2nd Row: K2, * P1, K1 rep from * to last st, K1.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows 3 times. Cast off loosely in rib.
Make Up: With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron press lightly. Using back stitch join sleeve and centre front seam leaving 20 cm open at top for zip. Sew in sleeves. Sew in zip. Fold hems on to wrong side and slip stitch in position. Press seams.
