Infant's Cardigan
Materials: 6 (25gm) balls Main colour and 2 balls contrast colour wool.
Back
Using No 12 needles and Main colour wool cast on 60 sts.
1st Row: K1, *P1, K2, rep from * to end.
2nd Row: P1, *K1, P1, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows 5 times dec 2 sts in last row - 58 sts.Change to No 10 needles. Working in stripes throughout of 12 rows M, 2 rows contrast work in garter st until work measures 12 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.
Shape Armholes: Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec at each end of next row and alt rows 5 times - 40 sts.
Work 25 rows.
Shape Shoulders: Cast of 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 5ssts at beg of foll 2 rows. Leave rem sts on a stitch holder.
Left Front: Using No 12 needles and Main colour wool cast on 30 sts.
Work 12 rows rib (as Before).
Change to No 10 needles.
Work in garter st and stripes (as before) until work measures 12 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.
Armhole:Cast off 3 sts at beg of next row. Dec at armhole edge in alt rows 6 times.
Work 8 rows.
Shape Neck: 1st row Cast off 8sts knit to end. Dec at neck edge in next row and alt rows 3 times
Work 19 times.
Shape Shoulder: Cast off 3 sts at beg of next row and fol alt row.
Work 1 row. Cast off.
Right Front:Work to correspond with Left Front.
Sleeves
Using no 12 needles and M, cast on 38 sts. Work 12 rows rib dex 2 sts in last row.
Change to no 10 needles.
Working in garter st and stripes inc at each end of 3rd row and foll 10th rows until there are 48 sts. Count until side edge measures 12cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.
Shape Top: Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec at each end of 3rd row and foll 4th row then in alt rows until 14 sts rem.
Work 1 row.
Cast off.
Right Front Band:
Using back stitch join shoulder seams. With right side facing using No 12 needles and M, knit up 50 sts along right front edge.
Work 3 rows rib (as before).
4th Row: Rib 3, cast off 3sts (rib 13 sts off 3 sts) twice, rib 10.
5th row: Rib 10 cast ib 3sts, (rib 13 cast ib 3 sts) twice rib 3.
Work 7 rows. Cast off loosely in rib.
Left Front Band:
Work as for other band omitting buttonholes.
Neckband:
With right side facing using No 12 needles and M, knit up 88 sts evenly around neck including sts from stitch holder.
Work 12 rows rib working a buttonhole at neck edge 4 sts from edge on 8th row. Cast off loosely in rib.
Make Up: Do Not Press. Using back stitch join side and sleeve seams. Swe in sleeves. Swe on Buttons.
